Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr claimed that Egypt is a force to be reckoned with, and no team would want to face them.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon, and will take place from 9 January to 6 February 2022.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in June and July 2021 but the CAF announced on 15 January 2020 that due to unfavorable climatic conditions during this period, the tournament would be postponed.

The last AFCON edition took place in Egypt back in 2019 and the Algerian national team claimed the title after beating Senegal 1-0 in the final.

Before the AFCON draw tonight, Gernot Rohr shared his thought about the upcoming tournament in a statement he made to ONTime Sports.

Gernot said: “Everyone wants to avoid Egypt, I am sure I don’t want to face the Egyptian national team.

“Egypt is a wonderful country, the people there are really friendly.

“After coming third in the last edition, we are aiming to reach the final in Cameroon, we are a strong team.

“We have very talented players among the Nigerian national team ranks such as Ndidi and Ighalo, we can go far in tournaments.”

Egypt were drawn in Group D alongside Nigeria, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau and will be expected to be among the top two teams alongside the Green Eagles.
